The New York University School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine offers an innovative, funded fellowship dedicated to Emergency Medicine Safety, Quality, and Practice InnovationThe Kenneth and JoAnn G. Wellner Fellowship in Emergency Department Safety and Quality aims to prepare graduates to assume leadership opportunities in quality and safety administration, operations, education, and research. The Department provides clinical care in multiple, varied practice settings, including a level-one trauma center, academic medical centers, a 35-bed, dedicated observation unit, and a freestanding ED. The fellowship curriculum combines formal didactic learning sessions, directed reading, and topic analysis to support operational change. The fellow assists in leading the educational mission though teaching and training multiple learner levels in quality and safety activities. A number of funded and spontaneous QA/QI research activities provide fellows the opportunity to advance their scholarly endeavors. The potential to obtain advanced degrees – Masters in Comparative Effectiveness Research Training, MPH, Master of Health Professions Education Program (MHPE), or the Biomedical Informatics Master’s Graduate Program (BMI MS) – and attend simulation teaching courses is considered on a case-by-case basis, guided by fellow interests.
