AVAILABLE ED STUDENT ROTATIONS
A rotation with Zucker SOM at NS/LIJ offers the perfect exposure to emergency medicine. Students will grow from the experience in our supportive educational environment.
North Shore University Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center specializing in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and more. It is a transfer center for Transplant and Advanced Stroke care. It sees about 90,000 patients and focuses on complex, cutting edge care.
LIJ Medical Center is an FDNY receiving facility, a level II Trauma Center that straddles the border between New York City and Nassau County. It functions as a safety net hospital, caring for the full range of cultures and socioeconomic groups. It is a transfer center for Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonary, and attaches to a full psychiatric hospital, as well as the nationally recognized Cohen Children’s Center. It is a busy academic ED which cares for approximately 100,000 visits annually.
Both centers have a very high acuity and admit rate, and offer a robust faculty to pair the amazing exposure with teachers to share their expertise.
People seeking care at the Northwell ED’s come from all walks of life and all parts of the world, with a tremendous range of medical conditions. While rotating in our ED’s you will work directly with attending physicians and senior residents and experience all the different parts of the ED.

We make an effort to accommodate as many students as possible and spots sometimes open up as time goes on, so do not be discouraged if you don’t get your first date. All applications must be submitted through VSAS and the Zucker School of Medicine. If you do not have access to VSAS, you may contact Ms. Sandie Luciano sluciano@northwell.edu for more information.
